(1) ARE BULLDOGS AGGESSIVE?
Bulldogs are generally not an aggressive breed. They are very much a people
dog and love to be around you. Because they are so big when fully grown they can be clumbsy
and knock you over. Oh....and of course they will love you to death when given the opportunity.
(2) HOW MUCH GROOMING DO THEY REQUIRE?
Not a great deal of grooming is required. A quick brush all over every couple of days is fine.
(3) HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED TO CLEAN THEIR WRINKLES AND WHAT'S INVOLVED?
Once daily with a dry cloth clean under their tail, down each side of their nose where the creases are and under the nose roll.
Always double check in hot weather as they can build up sweat in their wrinkles and if not dried and treated, can cause chaffing
become red raw and sore.
(4) DO BULLDOGS SUFFER FROM THE HEAT?
Yes they do...... All flat nosed breeds(Braccy breeds) suffer from the heat. Always make sure they have fresh cold water available
and a cool place to stay. Treat them with common sense like you would a small child. Also don't excercise your bulldog in the hot
part of the day.
(5) HOW MUCH EXCERCISE DO THEY REQUIRE?
Bulldogs are not marathon exercises. All dogs require moderate excercise regularly to maintain good health. Please remember if it is
going to be hot plan your walk early in the morning or early evening when it is cooler.
(6) I HAVE HEARD THAT BULLDOGS DRIBBLE.IS THIS TRUE?
Generally speaking... NO.... they are quite clean dogs. They can make a mess when eating and drinking if their bowl is not deep or wide
enough for them to get their hole face in.
(7) ARE BULLDOGS GOOD WITH CHILDREN?
They are a family breed of dog and love to be around you. Bare in mind though that they are a large breed of dog and when fully grown can
bowl you over very easily.
(8) WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIMITED REGISTER AND MAIN REGISTER?
Limited Register is an orange pedigree certificate which is issued to puppies/dogs which are not to be bred from or shown.
Main Register is a blue pedigree certificate which is issued to puppies/dogs which can be bred from and shown if there aren't any
endorsments on the dog.
Please Note: Just because you may acquire a puppy with limited register papers, don't think you are purchasing a puppy of lesser quality.
Quite often it can come down to something as small as color/markings on a dog which may not suitable from a breeders point of view to place
them on main register and have nothing what so ever to do with it's health or well being. 9 times out of 10 breeders prefer to place their puppies
into pet homes anyway.
(9) HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR A PUPPY?
Be prepared to be patient. Some breeders have a 12 month waiting list for puppies. Generally , breeders will only consider having a litter when
there is something they wish to breed from to keep for themselves. From this litter , the breeder will get first pick of what they wish to keep for
themsleves and then the rest of the puppies will become available to suitable homes. Sometimes the litter may only be small and the breeder
chooses not to sell any and keep them instead. Alot of the time demand is greater then the puppies available.
(10) COST OF A BRITISH BULLDOG?
British bulldog puppies are very expensive. You will generally pay anywhere between $2500- $4000. Always do your research into your breeders you're
looking at buying from.
There are a lot of scams out there at the moment . Look at breeders websites, go and visit them in person if you can ,ask to see their dogs and what
conditions they are living in, attend some dog shows and speak to some breeders about the breed. Read their guestbook on their websites and see what
feedback they are getting etc etc.
(11)* Because both parents are of the same breed.
*Because both parents are recognized by the ANKC.
*The dogs breeders are registered to breed these litters.
*The puppy /dog you purchase will come with his/her own 3 generation pedigree to prove it's purebred.
(12) SO YOU WANT TO BECOME A BRITISH BULLDOG BREEDER? WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?
It is an expensive hobby. Many people see how expensive bulldogs are to buy and think it might be a quick way to make a few
dollars.... "good luck with that".....
Here's an idea of what it costs to have a litter of 4 puppies.
*Firstly you need to purchase a bitch. Lets hope the one you buy is suitable for breeding from and doesn't have any health issues.
*Stud fee (This will vary depending on stud dog , semen, and form of implantaion used), $1000-$4000
*Progesterone Tests (lets say 5 ) $3000
*Ultrasound to confirm the bitch is in whelp(fingers crossed) $80
*C-Section (Lets hope she falls on a week day during office hours and not on a public holiday, weekend
or after hours .Mine always fall on a weekend). $700
*Food for the puppies from 3 1/2 weeks to 8 weeks of age $500
*Worming,vaccinating,micr-chipping and Vet checks $400
*Registering the puppies with Dogs NSW $100
Plus... Don't forget to include all the sleepness nights. It's like having a new born baby. Bulldogs are known not to be the best
mums. Most breeders will seperate the puppies from mum and bring them in for feeding every 2 hours for the first few weeks. Thats right every
2 hours you get up put the pups on mum to feed and then put them away. Then awake again 2 hours later and do the same thing .
BREEDERS ARE VERY DEDICATED TO THEIR DOGS.THEY ONLY SOURCE THE BEST BLOODLINES NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY TO BREED
WITH AND WITH ONLY ONE GOAL IN MIND WHICH IS TO BREED AS CLOSE TO AS POSSIBLE TO THE WRITTEN BREED STANDARD.
IT TAKES YEARS TO BETTER WHAT WE'VE ALL STARTED OUT WITH AND WILL TAKE EVEN MORE YEARS TO IMPROVE ON WHAT WE'VE ACHEIVED
TO BREED TODAY. IT IS FAR FROM BEING A GET RICH QUICK SCHEME!!!!
